The Pawn Illustration

Following an atypical idea to see if we can design chess pieces out of fruits and vegetables, today we've created a new illustration made out of a pear for THE PAWN.

The pawn is the most numerous piece in the game of chess, and in most circumstances, also the weakest. It historically represents infantry, or more particularly, armed peasants.

Except on its first move, a pawn may only move one square forward at a time. Pawns can never move backwards.

Back in the 18th century the chess-master Philidor uttered the words:
…to play the pawns well; they are the soul of chess: it is they which uniquely determine the attack and the defense, and on their good or bad arrangement depends entirely the winning or losing of the game.
