The queen is the most powerful piece in the game of chess, able to move any number of squares vertically, horizontally or diagonally. Each player starts the game with one queen, placed in the middle of the first rank next to the king. In chess , the queen has mobility but less value, as the game can continue without her. On the other hand, the king, that has more value because if you lose the king you lose the game, has relatively much less power. Chess historians believe that the piece we call as the queen today was originally known as the "advisor" and it was one of the weakest pieces on the board as it could only move one square diagonally.
